Fun, Friendship as ABCF Celebrates 5th Birthday

Dance with the Dragon, Swim with the Fish

The Association for Barbados-China Friendship celebrated its fifth anniversary with an afternoon of “barefoot elegance” under cover overlooking the beach at Nautilus Ocean Suites resort on Bay Street, St Michael on Sunday May 26. Members, friends and guests, among them Ambassador Yan of the People’s Republic of China, enjoyed food and entertainment that was a mixture of the Caribbean and the Chinese.

The performers included Lincoln Su and the Chinese Dragon Dancers, Wayne “Poonka” Willock and the Ruk-a-Tuk Band, the ABCF’s own Helene Zamor on steel pan, and a duet and solos by Confucius Institute teachers ZHOU Yuhan and SHI Baihui on traditional Chinese stringed instruments, the erhu and the guzheng. The menu included dumplings, wontons, fish cakes, spring rolls, rice and peas, chow mein, pork, chicken and fish, with a selection of desserts.

ABCF President DeLisle Worrell gave a brief summary of the association’s activities, read greetings from the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in Beijing, and thanked the association’s Events Committee for the organisation of the function, the staff of Nautilus for the catering and arrangements, and all our guests for sharing the celebration with us. Ambassador Yan also offered remarks and congratulations. The afternoon’s activities ended with prizes and giveaways, and the cutting of the birthday cake.
